San Francisco Tour Guide Training!

We’ll spend three days sharing our tips and tricks about San Francisco, setting you up to lead amazing tours here. We’ll also work on your storytelling skills as we share our secrets of guiding craft with you!
Day 1

Sunday, Jan 27

2:30pm-8pm

  • We’ll meet at the group hotel, the Hotel Carlton, start with a city orientation session, giving you a good look at the city’s plan and development, using maps and photos.
  • Then we’ll venture out for an included cable car ride, ending up at the historic Ferry Building where we’ll explore the history of the Embarcadero area and have a moment for some delicious foods.
  • From there, we’ll begin a walk along Market Street, sharing incredible history and tracking the Market Street’s (and the city’s) rapid transformation over the last decade.
  • We’ll cover Union Square, an essential headquarters for group hotels, shopping and food, with some great stories, too.
  • Our final evening walk will cover the sights, smells and stories of Chinatown. We’ll finish the evening with some local food and drinks in the neighborhood.
Day 2

Monday, Jan 28

8:30am-8pm

  • Road Trip Day! Time to cover a lot of ground!
  • We’ll begin by heading south to the Mission District. There’s so much here: street art, incredible history dating back to the Catholic roots of the city, great Mexican food (including the XL-sized Mission burrito), a wide variety of shopping, and the citywide tale of hypergentrification (exhibited by places like Mark Zuckerberg’s $10M home here).
  • We’ll then head through Dolores Park towards the GLBT History Museum, a good way to begin a visit to the Castro District, and the integral role the city has played in the fight for LGBTQ rights, including telling stories of well-known figures like Harvey Milk, and lesser known ones, too.
  • Next we’re off to explore both the Lower Haight and Haight-Ashbury neighborhoods, ending up in Golden Gate Park.
  • From the park, we’ll head off to the Presidio and Golden Gate Bridge, exploring the area’s military history, diving into the bridge’s engineering, take in some spectacular views, and make sure you understand the logistics and various ways the area fits into itineraries and tours.
  • We’ll end the busy day with a special surprise!
Day 3

Tuesday, Jan 29

8:30am-8pm

  • Meeting again at the Hotel Carlton, we’ll start the day meeting a local guide. We’ll head up to Nob Hill and visit Grace Cathedral. Then we’ll weave a new path through Chinatown, and exploring the literary, Italian and bohemian neighborhood of North Beach.
  • We’ll show you the logistics of taking a group to Lombard Street and Coit Tower before continuing towards the waterfront, where we’ll run you through the logistics of taking a group to Alcatraz.
  • The afternoon’s walk will aim to help you show your guests a non-touristy walking & food experience from Pier 39/Fisherman’s Wharf over to Ghiradelli Square and the Marina that highlights the area’s lesser-known history.
  • We’ll finish with farewell drinks and a chance to talk individually about the industry: resumes, using technology, introductions to tour operators & companies, and anything else that can help you in your career.
