Recorded + Zoom Meetups

Video Mastery

Recorded instruction + regular Zoom LIVE workshops

Taught by Alan Armijo

Video is powerful, when done right.

This course is designed to give you the professional editing skills to create compelling, quality video stories and tours. You can use these skills to create incredible videos for your groups, create impactful YouTube videos for your channel and stand out marketing videos for your business. We will explore more advanced filming techniques that will make your videos — and tour business — stand out.

Instructor Alan Armijo created this simple but powerful video in just two hours. With only scripted voice-over and specially chosen video clips, you can drive home an important message for your tour business.

Make an impact with an iPhone. A brand explainer video has the power to use simple testimonials and B-roll clips to inspire future guests to travel with you. In our brand video, we took interviews and extra footage to make an impactful 2-minute teaser of what we’re about.

Get your YouTube game going. Student David Shaw produced a video for his new company, Off the Record Tours, which highlights his cheeky humor and love of history. A perfect video for his business’s new YouTube channel, and his first attempt at video editing using simple equipment and thinking about lighting, editing, and audio.

“I just completed Alan’s AMAZING video class. It is so incredibly helpful and empowering. If, like me, you have no real experience shooting video, let alone editing it and making it look real, I am here to tell you YOU CAN DO IT! In 4 short classes I went from knowing nothing about this process to being able to create a much more professional video than I had before.” -Scott

“I have discovered that shooting video is fun, creatively rewarding and a wonderful excuse to get out of the house. Thank you Alan and TripSchool for bringing the elements together and motivating me. My head is spinning with ideas!” -Thom

This is a small group, live, participatory Zoom workshop!

This not another “watch some videos and lose motivation” passive course. Think more of a cooking class: we’ll learn and create together.

We believe live courses offer better engagement and a more rewarding learning experience. You’ll be with a community of likeminded people, keeping you motivated and inspired by watching everyone else tell stories, and then continue together on our private Facebook forum after the course.

In short, we want you to actually accomplish something!

Course Overview

Both courses combine for a full, intense video creation curriculum.

Video Mastery I: Story & Equipment

Class 1 Exploring the Story

A video is worth 1.8 million words, according to a Forrester Research Study. Learn how to tell a story through video by focusing on themes, building stories around emotion and following key storytelling principles. “Emotional Marketing” is a real thing. It’s the idea of bringing the viewer into your video and sparking an emotion in them from what you are showing. This is impactful and if done well, will keep your audience engaged. We will explore how to create a shooting workflow and storyboard to build your video. If you are creating a video for a group, a virtual tour on YouTube or videos to highlight your company’s tours – learning to create impact will put you at the top of your game!

Class 2 Master Your Equipment

We will go over the best shooting angles, whether using your phone or camera. Using the Gimbal is also a learning curve so we will discuss the pros and cons the “when to use and when not to use”. Lighting set up and options including how to use basic light bulbs (and which kinds to use) to do inexpensive solutions to improve your lighting without high end equipment. Phone accessories for filters and external lenses as well as tripods will be discussed. Shooting B Roll tips and tricks to highlight your videos and add richness. We will also demonstrate how to use a green screen and chroma key to create virtual tours.

Class 3 Bringing Footage into the Story

With the skills from class 1 and 2, we will review our projects and discuss the workflow for each. We will learn organizational techniques, discuss editing options and discuss aspect ratios appropriate for the projects you are creating for, ie; Instastory, Facebook ads, YouTube, etc. We will look at options for music, graphics, intro and outros for our videos and branding. The finished projects will be presented in the private group on CampFire.

Video Mastery II: Editing

Class dates and times are listed at the top of the page.

Class 4 Editing Basics

We start at the basics as we learn to bring videos into a video editor and build our timeline. We will cover editing techniques and learn how to put videos together by adding the “A roll” with the “B roll” and figuring out the best timing for each. We will work on color grading, filters and LUTS and learn how to add music and sound to our projects. An assignment will be given to complete before the next class.

Class 5 Graphics & Titling

We will learn to bring in animations and text to a project and create intros and outros that will give your videos that “professional” feel. We will also look at various platforms where you can download clips, animations and graphics to add to your videos. Looking at the effects and graphics offered in our editing software and when to apply will be an important tool to master and your assignment for this class. If you want to learn how to bring your videos to life, this class is for you!

Class 6 Advanced Editing

In this class we will explore more advanced editing techniques, like masking, color matching and other creative video tricks. We will finish with learning about aspect ratios, rendering and exporting projects. Our final videos will be viewed later on the private TripSchool group in Campfire.

So many ideas and soooo many new technologies to spice up my tours. If TripSchool offers this again, DO IT! So much fun.

-Cindy

Just finished TripSchool’s Video Creation Workshop. What a wonderful experience it was with Alan at the helm. I have never done video shooting or editing before, it all seemed a little daunting. After four classes I have been able to produce a professional video that I am happy to show people!
