Storytelling Workshops for Tour Directors and Tour Guides

Video rules.

As a tour director today, getting hired is much more than just sending out resumes. Tour operators expect that you share a video introduction and in the post Covid world, this will be more important than ever! But they’re hard to make, and so many of them fall short.

This course is designed to give you the technical skills needed to produce a high quality introduction video that you can link to your resume. You will learn how to create a story and narrative, creating a dynamic and engaging video. We will then cover basic editing skills, filming techniques and post production. By the end of the course, you will have a top notch video that you can be proud of!

What you’ll learn

  • Building the “story of you” for video

  • Filming “B Roll” to spice up your video

  • Editing and adding effects and titles

  • Getting good sound quality

What you get

  • Lifetime Access to Recordings

  • Small Group Workshops of 10 people

  • 4 Sessions of 2 hours each (2 ‘classroom’ and 2 ‘workshop’)

  • Access to Private TripSchool Online Learning Hub Facebook Group

  • A great intro video!

This is a live, participatory workshop!

We’ve been experimenting with both styles of courses, and the feedback has been overwhelming: right now, motivation is in short supply and everyone’s struggling to feel connected to each other.

It’s more work for us, but that’s why we believe live courses offer better engagement and a more rewarding learning experience. You’ll be with a community of likeminded people, keeping you motivated and inspired by watching everyone else tell stories, and then continue together on our private Facebook forum after the course.

Course Outline

Tuesday, August 18 Discovering Your Story 12-2pm EDT

We will discuss the elements of what makes a good introduction video, look into who you are and what you want to say. By breaking down the different parts and working our storyboard, we will understand what will be needed in filming. We will work on fine tuning our commentary and workshop the best ways to present this information. Understanding what information is relevant to tour operators and how you can best express them, are key elements to creating an amazing video. We will also work with voice techniques and body language, key factors in presenting a great video.

Friday, August 21 Film and Sound

We will break down, for each individual the best locations to film. You will learn how to do break away shots and “b-roll” for added value once we get to editing your clip. We will discuss “intros” and “outros” and other “branding” techniques. Composition and camera angles, lighting and movement will be a major focus. An introduction to various software that can be used to add depth and professional quality to your videos as well as filming techniques. We will explore the sound quality, discuss how to check volume levels and best practices for using an external mic
You will be given assignments to shoot and will be prepared with all your footage for the next class.

Tuesday, August 25 Editing 12-2pm EDT

This class will take place in 2 sections. One for Mac/Iphone users and one for PC/Android.
We will go over the various elements of editing in each platform. You will learn how to merge your clips and edit them together to create a story. Techniques will be shown on how to make your footage “flow” and add elements like images, music or effects to make them stand out. You will learn how to upload the videos to YouTube and the proper settings.

(Note: between Class 3 and 4, you will have access to the instructor to email your edited clips for feedback)

Friday, August 28 Presentation Day!

Today we will gather around and view everyone’s new introduction videos! Finally, we learn to create unique URL’s and add them to resumes!
